He ain't heavy
This started as a straightforward installation, until half way through the project, the client informed us that once the floor was complete a table weighing almost 1 tonne would be placed there. A table this weight would cause the floor on the edges to rise up – a real problem which we would need to overcome. Undeterred, we put our heads together and found a solution. We dug 2 small parallel channels all the way around the edge of the room as well as where the timber was to meet the tiled floor. We then screwed and glued down timber battens into the channels finished flush to the concrete sub floor. We continued with the installation of the timber floor gluing to the subfloor as well as nailing to the already installed battens. The use of nails and adhesive created a more secure installation which would be able to with stand the extra stress the large weight load in the centre of the room would create.
